Hi people. After visiting a number of reunion sites
I concluded that a reunion site of our own would do us no harm, so
here it is. I'm happy to maintain the
site but I have no special interest in owning it, having naming
rights on it or taking credit for it. I just want to bring some of
these things together. I have found another similar more regularly updated site here http://www.westwallsend.net/. For the benefit of anyone who has found their way to
this site but does not know the area, the West Wallsend area is a
historic former coal mining village. Mining activities continue in
Killingworth. The area is located directly West of Newcastle and in
North Western Lake Macquarie, of which it is a part. Lake
Macquarie was once a Municipality of Newcastle but is now a City in
its own right. Most people in "Westy" still associate as much with
Newcastle and the Hunter Region generally as they do with Lake
Macquarie. Both are great places.
I'm looking for school crests for Barnsley
and Edgeworth Heights Schools. I would also appreciate any help you are willing to offer
in identifying appropriate content for these pages. If you have any photos of icons of each suburb, of
the schools and so on please let me know using the guestbook. I no
longer live in the area so I have no capacity to take any myself.
For the moment I'm just linking to existing photos on the web and
hoping nobody minds since this I'm doing it
non-profit and am giving credit.
Those of you who have left the area, the state or
even the country who might be feeling a little home sick might like to
check out the
old haunt,
Lake Macquarie and
Newcastle on Google Maps or find your way around on
Whereis and
leave your pin on the guestmap. On the subject of maps you
will, no doubt, all remember the December 1989
Newcastle 5.6 Earthquake. The
epicentre of that event was remarkably close to home, virtually
right under us (purportedly about 30km under Boolaroo (Awabakal for
'place of many flies')... the coordinates are actually beneath the
wetlands on the other side of the creek in Teralba (Awabakal for
'place of ticks'), of which Barnsley was a part when its first
school opened. The 1994 5.2 quake which
we all took in our stride was
centred on the other side of Mount Sugarloaf near Cessnock. [Source]
The
management of a regional famous face, the Original
YAHOO, Mr
Yahoo Serious (actor, author, producer, director) found it useful to
state his origins as Boolaroo due to the quaint and somewhat
humourous meaning of its name. It is known to locals that he
is in fact from Cardiff - but hey, he's still one of our own, we're
all Novocastrians right? Who outside of Westy (or in it) is ever
going to look at this page anyway! Your secret is safe with us.
If you're planning a reunion click on "Reunion" on
any of the suburbs pages and make a posting on the calendar.

I'm not maintaining a database of students or school
photos. My guess is that most of you will go to facebook anyway.
Policy Statement
Spam, profanity, defamatory
and discriminatory language will be removed from postings. Let's respect everyone and keep it civilised folks.
Welcome to everyone. I hope you like the site.
